Why choose a flat design logo?

1. Flat design, what is it?

Flat design is a graphic design based on minimalism. As opposed to a realistic and detailed design, flat design eliminates elements deemed decorative or superfluous (details, shadows, 3D effects, etc.). Flat design appeals to the user’s imagination. Instead of explaining the usefulness of an element, it is explained in the simplest possible way. In three words, flat design is: simple, uncluttered and modern!

2. What is the point of having a good logo ?

The logo does not represent a brand on its own, but it is probably the most important element of the visual identity. Indeed, a good logo is a good first impression on consumers. The main issues with the logo are that it is easily remembered and naturally associated with the company. The best logos are those that maintain a base that lasts over time. But which evolve intelligently with the company by adapting to the targets and in the long term allow the company’s history to be represented. If you don’t change your logo, you run the risk of being marginalised and negatively impacting your image.

3. The flat design logo

Opting for a flat design logo will allow your company to stand out from the crowd by a visual modernization that will bring freshness and impact a larger number of customers. The aim of the flat design logo is to be functional, i.e. to use as few elements as possible to get to the point. This will allow clients to immediately understand the values of your agency and the quality of your services. Leaving very few elements on your logo will stimulate the user’s imagination. With this technique we can choose how the user perceives the agency, directing them to the most important information. This deals with the subconscious because the brain analyses a simple but refined image differently. For example, a well worked line will elicit a better understanding of the subject rather than an overloaded line with details that will destabilise understanding. As Leonardo da Vinci said: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”.

4. Minimalism

In the same vein as flat design, minimal art, or minimalism, is an art movement that seeks to reduce to a minimum the elements necessary for the viewer to understand. Examples of minimalist artworks are :

Finally, here are 5 characteristics of a flat design logo:

  • A minimum of elements: each visual has a specific purpose it must be functional and respond to the value of the agency
  • Three colours maximum
  • Simple shapes
  • Linear typography (i.e. fine, modern and sans serif)
  • Limit the amount of information = draw the eye to the essential.
